Welcome back from the Easter Break, the children have enjoyed sharing their holiday adventures with each other and have been writing about their holidays this week.
In R.E. we have finished off our topic all about Easter and will begin to explore a new unit of work next week.
In maths, the children have been learning about the inverse of addition and have been writing number sentences using addition and subtraction using the same numbers to find out that they are the opposite of each other. The children have also been investigating word problems and in mental maths our focus has been on describing a mystery number for others to guess, for example, my number is greater than / smaller than...; my number has two tens; my number is odd / even...can you guess what it is?
In English, the children have been writing letters and postcards, thinking about features of letter writing and practicing all of their writing skills such as using capital letters and full stops in the right places; making sure their sentences make sense; using their phonics skills to spell and writing their letters on the lines.
In Science, the children have been introduced to our new topic, which is 'Plants'.
Next Friday is 'Ice Cream Friday', when you will be able to buy an ice cream in the car park after school - proceeds are going to Reception Year this time.
Permission slips for our trip to Bexhill have been sent home in the children's book bags. Please complete both parts of the letter and return it to school as soon as possible, together with a contribution of £10 in an envelope with your child's name on the front. Year One will be going on Wednesday 3rd May. Thank you to those of you who have volunteered to come with us and help; we do now have enough helpers.
Have a lovely weekend,
The Ash Class Team
