Dear Parents,

Just to remind you all that the new website can be found at http://www.st-james-infant.kent.sch.uk/ Each class has a page with all the contact notes on, there is a calendar of events and other really useful information.

This week in Literacy we have been busy writing stories, learning to improve them with a better choice of words and checking them for mistakes. We have also written some Easter poems which the children have enjoyed doing. In Maths we have continued to learn about fractions, this week we have been particularly concentrating on finding the fraction of a number using cubes and recording this e.g.  ½ of 8 = 4 . We have been learning that you divide by the bottom number (we draw circles and share for this). The children have enjoyed designing a wheeled vehicle , labelling the materials they need to make it and considering how they will join the materials together so that the vehicle can move.

The words for next week:  Easter, cross, sun, son, here, hear, patting , humming, wheel, shiny. Please practice these at home.

Next week we will be reading and writing poetry. In phonics we are revising homophones words that sound the same but are spelt differently, such as, one and won, here and hear. We will also be revising contractions (I’m you’re we’re don’t). In Maths we will be continuing to learn fractions ½, ¼ , 1/3 , ¾ . We will be introducing symmetry using mirrors and marking the lines of symmetry on a shape (The line of reflection). We are also going to be continuing to look at learning to tell the time to the nearest 5 minutes. As much practise at home with the children telling the time to o’clocl, half past, quarter past, quarter to and to 5 minutes would be great.

We will be attending the singing festival on Tuesday afternoon and learning songs relating to food.

  • We would be grateful for some help walking to and back from the Singing festival at the Assembly Hall on Tuesday 21st March in the afternoon. 1pm – 3.15pm
  • We are planning a surprise trip to the park on Tuesday 28th March in the morning if anyone can help please let us know. (Don’t tell your child!)
  • R.E day 24th March – The children can come into school wearing their own clothes in return for £1 as it is Red Nose Day too. Please ensure they are wearing something appropriate for outdoors and art activities.

We hope you have a great weekend
