Dear Parents,

This week in Literacy we have been focusing on adding the suffix less to words to change the meaning. We wrote some sentences about dinosaurs e.g The Pterodactyl had no home he was homeless. In Maths we have been learning about sharing objects into groups and starting to record these as division number sentences e.g 6 shared between 2 is 6 ÷ 2 = 3. We have started to learn about the inverse of addition and subtraction e.g 3 + 7 = 10 10 – 7 = 3. We enjoyed looking at fossils at the beginning of the week and we have made our own fossil models using clay.

Next week we will be learning the suffix ment (enjoyment) and ness (sadness). All of these endings just need lots of practice and chat to actually understand them. Next week we hope to make a little nonfiction book based on dinosaur facts. The children need to be able to talk about some features of nonfiction books that we can think are obvious. If your child is reading a nonfiction book please talk about headings, subheadings, bullet points, labels, contents, glossary and the index. In Maths we will continue to be learning about division by sharing into groups and writing the number sentence. Next Tuesday is ‘Safer internet Day’ so we will be doing related activities.

The words for next week are

football, playground, bedroom, enjoyment, sadness, rainbow, careful, come, any, when

We hope you have a good weekend.

The Cedar Team
