What a wonderful week we have had, the surprise visit of the dinosaur was very exciting. He was a cheeky pet dinosaur who did not always do what he was supposed to do; he knocked off the Rangers hat, lots of times!
This week in Literacy we have been writing about the dinosaur visit and revising writing in the past tense. We looked at words that use the ed ending in the past and words that change in the past tense, e.g. I go becomes, I went. In Maths we have continued to learn about division (we are getting really good at this!) We are able to share between groups and write the number sentence to go with this. We have also been practising to tell the time using o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to.
The words for next week are enormous, huge, sharp, rough, smooth, pointed, harmless, excitement, quickly, quietly, saw
Next week we will be focusing on writing adjectives and beginning to write some stories linked to our topic; we will be using ‘the Magic Key’ , land of the dinosaurs story to give us ideas. In phonics we are beginning to revisit some of the spelling rules we learnt at the beginning of the year. We are learning to check our writing by considering; when we write a sentence, does it sound correct? In Maths we will be beginning to learn fractions ½, 1/4 , 1/3. We will be linking this to division by seeing that ½ is the same as dividing by 2. We are also going to be continuing to look at maths sentences with missing numbers or symbols and using strategies to solve them.
